History[]

By the end of Exodus Century there were 100 planets in early Colonization or Frontier phase. When the Interstellar portals started to fail these people struggled to survive. The Military refused to leave them without any help.

There was a long delay in additional colonization when the interstellar portals started to fail and parts were unattainable to either repair them or to make more.

The new simpler portals were recreated by the Fidelis Project in Beta Sector, their range was too short to reach to some planets.

Beowulf's portals failed first and their stellar distance was too far from any other planet for the new simpler portals to reach. It was another 100 years before contact was made again when the distance was improved enough to reach them. During that period many of it's early settlers died, including any babies born with Immune Syndrome.

Gamma Sector Moral Code[]

Gamma Sector has a strong moral code that isn't as strict as Delta, but stricter then Alpha or Beta sectors. The underlying principle is to respect others by not prying into their affairs. It can be considered stuffy by those used to other cultures.

“University Asgard classes are governed by the Gamma sector moral code, and section 8 of that code specifically states that students should not be penalized for acts carried out during periods of natural high emotion connected to deaths and memorials.”

–Playdon, [1]

Gamma sector moral code is often cited by Playdon during the Earth Girl trilogy.

The moral code deals with behavior and being intrusive or insensitive to others.

Section 8. Specifically states that students should not be penalized for acts carried out during periods of natural high emotion connected to deaths and memorials.[2]

Warning notes for travellers[]

Colonization of Gamma sector began in 2381, but the partial collapse of civilization after Exodus century, and the Thetis crisis, meant the final Gamma sector worlds weren’t opened until over two centuries later. The older Gamma sector worlds are fiercely proud of their struggle for survival during two centuries of chaos.

Gamma sector is widely regarded as having moderate values, and despite its small population has very strong political influence. The votes of its planetary representatives are often the deciding factor in issues that divide the much larger Alpha and Beta sectors. Any assumption of superiority by visitors from Alphan or Betan planets may be met with hostility.[6]
